Tom "Lucky" McNultyTechnical Director & Studio Operations Leader

I build studios, lead control rooms, and get demanding productions to air. My 20+ years span Big Brother, Hell's Kitchen, studio leadership at Bunim/Murray, and on-set technical leadership for Apple product launches.

The Reel

Two minutes on how I think about production, studios, and getting the shot.

What I bring to your team

Not a list of duties. What you actually get when I am in the chair.

■I get it to air

Two decades shipping live and broadcast shows on schedule and on budget, and staying calm in the chair when the pressure is highest.

■I build studios

Nine broadcast studios built from the ground up, with the signal flow, robotics, and engineering to keep them running.

■I make the money work

At Bunim/Murray I built an internal rental house that doubled our studio revenue and let us make shows the networks would not fund.

■I cut the busywork

Python, StreamDeck, and Excel tools for inventory, call sheets, billing, and on-set control, so the crew can focus on the show.

Signature moments

Twenty-plus years is a lot of stories. Here are three that tell you how I work.

Leadership under pressure

Calm in the chair

Directing a show the size of Hell's Kitchen is like flying a 747. Gordon Ramsay's energy runs through the whole crew and producers panic about missing a shot. I keep the calm in the control room so my team can do their best work. Steady beats loud, every time.

Twenty minutes to open

Running the AT&T Blue Room at Coachella, we failed the fire inspection right before doors. I found flame-retardant spray, passed it in twenty minutes, and we opened on time. I owned the whole thing, from the CAD drawings to trenching fiber across the polo field to the insurance with Goldenvoice.

Built the house

At Bunim/Murray we were paying the value of our gear four times over every year in rentals. So I built an internal rental house. Owning the gear let us green-light shows the networks would not fund, including the award-winning Surviving R. Kelly on nearly zero budget. The department became a profit center.
